Abstract

The paper is dedicated to 50 years of the Davydov’s soliton. Short history of soliton discovery is given. Application by the famous theoretician of the XX century Olexander Davydov of soliton theory to explain the mechanism of the energy transfer on macroscopic distances is discussed. The information is given about the ХХІХ Davydov Memorial Readings in Theoretical Physics. Such annual readings are traditionally held at the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Оlexander Davydov was the Director of the Institute from 1973 till 1984. The ХХІХ Davydov Readings were dedicated to 50 years of the Davydov’s soliton. Three members of the Board of the 'Nonlinear and Statistical Physics' Division of the European Physical Society took part in this seminar: Prof. Erik Aurell from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden), Prof. Irene Giardina from the Department of Physics, Sapienza University (Rome, Italy), and Prof. Massimo Vergassola from LPENS, Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris, CNRS (Paris, France). This participation was part of the initiatives dedicated by the European Physical Society to strengthening scientific ties with the Ukrainian physics community.
