The provision of Ukraine with its own natural gas: problematic aspects

Abstract

Comprehensive characteristics of hydrocarbon-gas potential of the Earth’s interior in Ukraine as a basis of the main lines of prospecting-exploratory works are given. The prospects of self-provision of our country with natural gas are considered. The main trends of hydrocarbon-gas potential of the Earth’s interior generally and Ukraine in particular are connected with: 1) great (more the 5 km) depths; 2) different-aged reef-carbonate complexes; 3) non-anticlinal and combined traps; 4) crystalline rocks basement of petroliferous sedimentary basins; 5) diversified unconventional (shale gas, central-basin gas, coal bed methane) and alternative natural gas sources. Proved reserves and prospective resources of the Earth’s interior in Ukraine would allow to provide the stabilization and further ever-growing of own natural gas production.
