Abstract

The paper surveys the achievements of academic art history in studying professional and popular art, history and theory of folk art, and its contribution to the world culture. Following issues are addressed: management of research which would account for the new approaches and methods, analysis of art history in the light of artistic styles’ evolution and in the context of its relationship to the wider international developments.
