Abstract

The article is about the plans of academician Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky, the founder and first President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, regarding the development of mineralogical studies in Ukraine and the way these plans were implemented during the Soviet period and the period when independence was attained. It is noted, that the Institute of Geochemistry and Physics of Minerals (nowadays Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation), founded in 1969 as the part of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the initiative of academician M.P. Semenenko, made a considerable contribution to the development of the modern methods of studies of mineral substance and to the mineralogical research of the territory of Ukraine. Today the Institute is aimed at the development of regional and genetic mineralogy, crystal chemistry and physics of minerals, crystallometry, biomineralogy and nanomineralogy, applied mineralogy.
