The role of government agencies in the formation of the Antarctic station “Academician Vernadsky”

The article chronicles the events of 1995-1996, related to the official transfer of the British Antarctic station “Faraday” to Ukraine, the organization of the First Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition and the formation of the Ukrainian Antarctic station “Academician Vernadsky.” Scientific and organizational measures of state bodies to coordinate and ensure the performance of Antarctic research are considered. The author emphasizes that the receipt by Ukraine of the British Antarctic station “Faraday” was a significant geopolitical milestone in the history of our country, which was realized through the successful actions of many participants in those events.
