Properties of a composite system based on fine-dispersed silica and rifampicin

By the methods of IR and UV spectroscopy, the interaction of nanosilica particles with the antibiotic rifampicin in a wide range of its concentrations is investigated. It is shown that the optimum silica surface coverage is achieved at a rifampicin concentration of 0.4 mmol/g. The stimulating effect of the SiO2-Rif composite on the suspension of yeast cells is found. It is promising to apply the SiO2-Rif composite in the biotechnological cycles using the fermentation process with the aim to prevent the contamination of yeast cells with microorganisms.
